ROAD TO THE SHORE

 OVERVIEW  -  PHOTOS  -  RESOURCES

This route leads north from Gander, through forests of silver birch, black spruce and red maple, to the communities of Gander Bay and the historic ‘Straight Shore'. Fine sandy beaches link rugged cliffs of granite along this shore, overlooking the myriad of islands and channels known as ‘Iceberg Alley'. This area includes the Barbour Living Heritage Village in historic New-Wes-Valley, once a bustling centre of fisheries-based commerce in the New World. Farther along is Greenspond, which dates back to the 1600s and features a fully restored, century-old courthouse.
