Details: Situated in a richly forested river valley where the Gambo River meets the sea in Freshwater Bay, the Town of Gambo also includes the once-distinct communities of Dark Cove and Middle Brook. The Gambo area has attracted commercial salmon fishing since the 18th Century and industrial harvesting of its forest resources since the mid-19th Century. The area is still known for its red pine groves.

The sandy terrain contrasts with peat bogs recently drained to grow hardy vegetables. More recently, the economy has diversified to include tourism and Gambo is a major service center for surrounding communities.
