ROAD TO THE ISLES

 OVERVIEW  -  PHOTOS  -  RESOURCES

From the seaport town of Lewisporte, with its modern marine transshipment terminal, the Road to the Isles winds along the coast, through the remains of a 17th Century Beothuk Indian settlement to the towering, ochre-red cliffs of New World Island and the quintessential fishing community of Twillingate. This is home to a modern fleet, but firmly rooted in its pioneering heritage. The fishers here share these waters with several species of whales, which come each year to feed and frolic among the icebergs.
